From the end of the 1970s, the locomotives of Class 119 were supplied to the Deutsche Reichsbahn by the Romanian locomotive factory „23 August“ in Bucharest. After initial difficulties and several conversions, however, the locomotives provided very good service in every day use and after reunification of the two German state railways came to the DB AG, where they have been used since 1994 as Class 219 locomotives. The traffic red 219 159-1 was based at DB Regio in Gera and from there was mainly used on lines in Saxony and Thuringia.
