The locomotive maker, VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx in Babelsberg, delivered type V 18B and V 22B diesel locomotives to the East German armed forces. They were used at the depots and warehouses for the international switching service. When the East German armed forces were disbanded in 1990, some of these locomotives were taken over by the Bundeswehr for a short while. One of these was locomotive number 53, which was delivered to the Ministry for National Defence in 1976. It was stationed in Neubrandenburg until 1999 and is today kept at the Eisenbahnfreunde Zollernbahn in Tübingen.
