The locomotives of Class BR 65.10 were the first locomotives of the new construction programme of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and were available for service from the end of the 1950s. Up to the 1970s, the tender locomotives of Class BR 65.10 supplied by „LKM Babelsberg“ were indispensable at the DR. One of the last places to use the powerful engines was the roundhouse at Arnstadt. 65 Class 1061 also belonged to the stock of this roundhouse and from here were put into service in the Thuringian Forest.
