The Deutsche Bundesbahn itself did not purchase any St. 1 refrigerator waggons; they existed exclusively as private waggons of the Interfrigo company. The waggons used in Germany usually had no electric ventilation. The eight Flettner rotors with various construction types on the roof were the distinctive feature here. The air stream over these rotors drove ventilators on the inside which ensured an even distribution of the cold air inside the waggon.
