At the end of the Second Word War, electrical train operation in Central Germany had collapsed and many of the installations and locomotives still existing were moved to the Soviet Union as reparation. Following an agreement between the young GDR and the USSR, some of the locomotives taken away were returned to the Deutsche Reichsbahn at the beginning of the 1950s. This also included parts of the E 95 previously based in Silesia. Three locomotives were rebuilt as a result by the repair shop Dessau and were mainly used for heavy goods transport.
