Info about the original
For moisture-sensitive bulk freight such as grain, flour, sugar or lime, the Federal Railway developed the Efkr 401 type medium container. This container, which could be used freely with all types of container wagon,
could be opened at the top from above for loading. However, for emptying, the Efkr 401 still had to be tilted to one side and the discharge outlet opened. This unloading concept was already well known from the open goods wagons with front flaps. The containers’ suitability for transporting food meant that it gained rapid popularity within the industry, which led well-known pasta producers, among others, to place their company’s advertising on the containers which were used in fixed circulation. Over a period of approximately 13 years, in the region of 6700 Efkr 401 units were produced and used in conjunction with the BT wagon up to the early 1990s.
